Lysebu is owned and operated by the The Danish- Norwegian Cooperation Fund and was a gift from Norway to Denmark in appreciation of the food aid Norway received during World War II. The Fund aims to contribute to increased understanding and cooperation between the two countries in the cultural field. The income generated at Lysebu and the Fund's second property, Schaeffergården outside Copenhagen, is used towards this end.
The Fund's operation is linked to Lysebu and Schaeffergården, with a special focus on culture and education. Lysebu is the main venue in Norway for intellectual and cultural exhange with Denmark. There's a strong emphasis on young people and the education of people who can pass knowledge, such as teachers, journalists and librarians.
